Abstrak

Background of this study is that Indonesia is reportedly a largest synthetic waste-producing country after China. The synthetic plastic was used widely in daily life, automotive, food industry, and biomedical field. It needs hundreds of years to degrade. Due to these, heavy environmental pollution and disposal of waste plastics have provided serious problems. However, more attention of researchers from Indonesia given to reduce using synthetic plastic is still limited. Meanwhile Indonesia has more resources to develop new biodegradable materials. The long-term goal of this research is to reduce the use of synthetic polymer in Indonesia by new environmentally friendly bionanocomposite that could be applied to some commercial products such as for food packaging, foodstuffs, healthcare components, children's toys based on synthetic polymer. The specific target of this study is the development of a biodegradable blend or/and bionanocomposite consisting of synthetic polymer and biodegradable starch biopolymer as matrix. For increasing property, the blend material will be mixed by nano particles/fibers from natural resources. The developed blend or bionanocomposites must meet the market needs. Starch of plants has been considered as a suitable material for bioplastic because of its inherent biodegradability, ready availability, and relatively low cost. A new method besides conventional techniques for the blending is ultrasound by adding compatibilizer. The benefits of this research is to reduce heavy environmental pollution and disposal of waste plastics in Indonesia. This proposal is an advanced development of last research resulting several articles in reputable International Journal. This proposed work will be focused on development biodegradable nanocomposite based on a blended starch as matrix reinforced by nanocellulose. This work will result several inventions to be patented such as invention of new environmentalfriendly materials of starch blended by synthetic polymers or biodegradable synthetic polymers or fillers. Some publications in reputable international journal, invited speaker in international seminar could be conducted. Also, text book and prototype of product could be developed. Members of this research come from Pharmacy Department, Andalas University, and Gifu University. Some equipments for research are available in the institution. Both of the research members has high reputable performance in International Journal. With regards, the Japanese Partner accepts the professor visiting and student exchange program to her laboratory. Duration of this research is planned for three years. In first year 2018, two articles have been published in a reputable international journal (Q1, and Q2, Elsevier). Another output is a international seminar carried out in CITES 2018 conference, Padang
